There's nothing worse than getting advice from older people, we know, we know, but the truth is some advice is worth taking and keeping, especially when it comes to fun beauty tips. We've been reading fashion magazines and testing beauty products for years. In this time, we've read 1000s of beauty tips, tried 1000s of products, but only a few are worth keeping around. So, here we share with you the 20 things we wish we knew when we were teenagers.

Skip the foundation
If you have acne the first thing you want to do is slather on the thick foundation. Don't. Foundation is for women over 30. Not only will it cover up your natural beauty, but foundation on a teenager looks anything but natural. Instead, cover up blemishes with concealer, then follow with a powder or tinted mosturizer. Tinted moisturizers tend to be lighter than heavy foundations.

You pat concealer in, you never rub it in
This is a beauty trick every magazine touts. When applying concealer, put a bit on the pad of your middle finger and pat it in. Never rub. Got acne? Pat the concealer on top of it.

Play up your lips or your eyes, never both
If you wear smokey eyes, go for nude lips with just a bit of gloss. Prefer the drama of dark lipstick? Keep face light (stay away from heavy blush) and wear only mascara on your eyes and a light eyeshadow. Don't heavily line your eyes. Play up both and you'll look like a clown.

And never, ever line lips in a darker color than your gloss or lipstick.

Less is more
Ever notice how some of your friends look best with no makeup at all? No matter your age, too much makeup makes you look worse. If you wear foundation, powder, blush, liner, mascara, eyeshadow, lip liner and gloss on an everyday basis, then you're overdoing it. Tone it down: All you really need is a great mascara, concealer for blemishes and gloss. Add a pop of blush in winter.

Natural hair is always hot
If you have super dark hair, lighten your look by going a shade darker or getting lighter highlights. Blonde? Try highlights, especially framing the face. 7. You can never go wrong with layers 
Long layers are great for any hair type: Super curly, straight or wavy. It makes thin hair appear thicker, curly hair appear manageable and wavy hair appear just-got-back-from-the-beach sexy. Just make sure you don't get too many layers cut in. Too many short layers is dated.

Acne? Get thee to a dermatologist, stat
Biggest mistake people with acne make? Not going to a dermatologist. Forget those $150 jeans you covet. Getting rid of those pimples will be the best investment you'll ever make. And the only guaranteed way to do it is with a dermatologist.

Buying foundation or lipstick? Test it first
There are some beauty products you simply must try out at a department store or Sephora before you buy. These include: Foundation, lipstick, blush and powder.

Buy these products in a grocery store and you'll be lucky if you picked the right color for your skin tone. What you can get away with without testing: Mascara, eye liner, most basic eye shadows and lip gloss.

When can you skip sunscreen ? Never
Here's a trick we wish we knew: The first beauty product you should apply every day is sunscreen, even if it's cloudy or rainy outside. Why? Good habits start young and if you use sunscreen now, you'll have gorgeous skin when you're 50, 60, 70. Remember, the sun's UV rays can penetrate clouds and car windows.

There's nothing cooler than long, layered waves. To get them, wind hair AROUND the barrel of a large curling iron. Reverse direction for each 2-inch section (wind up for one, down for another).

Self-tanner will always stink
Unfortunately, even the best ones smell. Your best bet is to apply self-tanner a good 24 hours before an important event and take a shower (don't loofah) to wash off any smell. For really big events like a dance or wedding, consider a professional spray tan. These are pricey and don't last long, so make sure to do it a day before the big event.

Don't let nails go

Don't line the inside of your eyes

Scrubs are great for dry skin
If you have dry, itchy skin in winter, invest in a scrub and handmitts and scrub away in the bathtub. Make sure to slather on a thick moisturizer afterward. For dry, callous-y feet, buy a pumice stone. They work better than any of the other wimpy options on the market.

Remember: Beauty is mostly internal
Think about a girl you know who's overweight yet all the guys love her. Why? Because she's confident. If you aren't wearing makeup and your toes haven't been repainted in weeks, if you're happy and smiling you will still be 10 times prettier than the mopey cheerleader sitting next to you in class. Drinking Water to Clear Skin


Today I want to go more in depth with water. What I found in my research is that most people that have acne are dehydrated. When I had acne, I realized that I don't drink enough water and when I started drinking more my face became clearer and clearer.

One of the biggest things that you can do if you have acne is to just drink enough water. You need to flush out the toxins and detoxify your blood flow. It also helps the nutrients and minerals to your skin cells.

As a general rule, you're going to drink 50% of your body weight in ounces of water each day. If you're working in a warm climate or your working out, you probably should be drinking 60% of your body weight in ounces.

Let's say you weigh 150 pounds, you want to be drinking 75 ounces each day. If you have a bottle that says 30 ounces, you got to drink 2 ½ of those whatever it may be. If you're 100 pounds, you should drink 50 ounces each day. So just divide your body weight in half and drink that much in ounces each day.

The next thing I want to talk about is tap water. It is something I recommend that you don't drink. To be honest, it would be better if you didn't shower or wash your face with it. What I do recommend is either purified or spring water.

There are different types of purified water, and the real good ones costs over a thousand dollars, but, over your lifetime that water purifier is way worth it. You get high quality water every day and you're not putting poison into your body.

There reason why I don't want you to drink tap water if you have acne is because it contains sodium fluoride. This is a toxic chemical that's not good or your body. The second thing that you don't want in your body is chlorine (like pool chlorine). The third thing is that traces of metals can also be found in it such as iron. The fourth thing and probably the worst thing about tap water besides fluoride is traces of pharmaceutical drugs. This is ridiculous because when you are not prescribed on a drug and you're putting these drugs in your body - it's not good for you because your body is going to react to those and that will probably cause more breakouts, health problems. You could damage your liver, your colon, your adrenal glands, limb systems, circulation, heart, lungs, etc. The problem though is that tap water is the most readily available water.

I personally recommend spring or purified water. Like I said, the purification systems out there are literally a thousand dollars in price. But you can buy spring water in gallons - I bought myself for $0.80 a gallon and that's pretty good. The only problem when you buy gallons of water is that it's in the plastic. The plastic contains something that's called PVA - a chemical that gets in the water. So even when you're drinking purified water out of plastic, you're getting PVA into your water. So it's best to drink your water in a glass.

Mix together one-half cup oatmeal, one egg, and a tablespoon of honey, and two tablespoons of orange juice. Thoroughly mix this all together, and gently scrub your face with it. Today, I bring you the plight that has plagued me for years and the ways I have discovered to treat acne naturally. It’s an extreme treatment for severe acne, so only use when necessary.

Brown Sugar Scrub
This is my personal favorite and what turned me onto using natural things rather than buying acne products. In the shower, once your skin is damp (and your pores have been opened up by the heat), scrub the acne problem areas with brown sugar. This will clean out dirt, dead skin cells and oil clogging your pores and soften your skin as well. The next day, you will see a noticeable change in your acne and your skin will be silky smooth. If you really want to get the most out of this scrub, apply a toner after you get out of the shower to truly clean out everything in your pores. Use this scrub only 2-3 times per month though, because it dramatically opens and cleans your pores. If you overuse it, your body may begin to overproduce oil and your acne could get worse.

Egg White to Remove Oil Crack 1-2 eggs in a bowl separating out the yolk from the egg white. Then, beat the eggs whites gently until consistant. Next, simple spread it over your face and let sit for 15-20 minutes. The eggs white remove excess oil from your skin.

Egg Yolk to Stop Pores from Clogging

Place it on the problem area for at least 10 minutes. Once the spot is good and cold, use a face wash (and cold water) and then toner.

Garlic to Prevent Breakouts Smash two peeled garlic cloves into a pulp or until you can squeeze juice out of it. Apply the juice to your face and leave it on for 5-10 minutes. There’s not much science behind this treatment, but it does work. Mint contains menthol which is a natural anti-inflammatory. This means it takes away the red that plagues your skin when you have acne.
